Bay Area CU helps CLAY CARES CLOSET

Thanks to Bay Area Credit Union, Clay Cares Closet is one step closer to helping hungry students within the Oregon school district.

Bay Area Credit Union and its employee outreach committee, Beyond Bay Area, presented Clay Cares Closet with a check for $1,458.00 to help purchase a freezer and possibly a small refrigerator for the school-based food pantry.

Clay Cares Closet is the inspiration of Oregon school educators Brandi Birr and Jennifer Kollarik. While one day commuting together, a conversation about students coming to school hungry and their lack of attentiveness and focus, caused the teachers to consider that with the help of school peers and the community they could help provide food for these students to take home.

Beyond Bay Area committee member Cindy Krieger found out Birr and Kollarik had hopes of possibly expanding the closet and be able to store both fresh and frozen food. Krieger shared the teachers hopes with Bay Area Credit Union’s employees and a suggestion was made that the charitable portion of the credit union’s annual Skip-A-Pay program should go to Clay Cares Closet for the freezer and small refrigerator.
